I’ve never really been one to make New Year resolutions because I don’t think that anyone ever really sticks to them. It’s definitely important to always set yourself goals, in order to strive for success but i’m more of a believer in setting goals whenever you think of them and not just because a new year has started.
However, this year, it just so happens that my goal setting falls at the beginning of a new year – 2018 – so I thought… why not share them?
Bring back the blog
My first goal is to get back into writing, hence the resurrection of this blog. I feel like since starting my YouTube channel, I got a little bit carried away with making content for that and completely neglected this platform. Writing is a sort of therapy for me and it’s something that I thoroughly enjoy doing, but I found myself making a video on a topic that I wanted to speak about, instead of writing, because I thought that people would prefer to watch a video than to read a super long blog post. However, I then found myself creating content on my channel that I wasn’t particularly proud of, just for the sake of uploading a video.
So 2018 sees the re-birth of this blog. Yay.
Create content that I’m proud of
Following on from that, one of my biggest goals for 2018 is to only upload content that I am proud of. I realise that uploading 1-2 videos a week and keeping to set deadlines whilst trying to fit in work, food, sleep and a social life is just not possible for me at this stage, unless I carry on creating mediocre content – which I don’t want to do. So I have decided that I’m going to put a lot more time and effort into creating content for my YouTube channel, which may mean that I’m not uploading quite as regularly BUT at least I can make content that I am passionate about and proud to share with you. I also want to give myself time to learn more about editing and film making to ensure that my content is the best that it can be. So, to those of you who keep up with my weekly videos – don’t panic! I’ll be back soon with some – hopefully – exciting, new content.
Veganism is something that until about 4 months ago, I didn’t really understand the benefits of. I’d heard of family and friends that had gone vegan and completely changed their lifestyle and health for the better – but I didn’t really understand how or why.
One night I was sat at home and stumbled across the Netflix documentary What The Health – now for anyone that is yet to watch this, I definitely recommend it! But just be mindful of facts and don’t start scaring yourself to death – So I decided to watch it and it honestly opened my eyes to the reality of how badly what I was eating was affecting my long term health.
A few weeks later I watched another Netflix documentary – by the same guy – called Cowspiracy. I then decided to turn vegetarian.
There’s never been a better time to go vegan, with all the resources available out there to help you transition easily and healthily. More and more mainstream restaurants are adding vegan dishes to their menus and supermarkets are starting to stock even more vegan alternatives.
So I decided that from January 1st, I would start my transition to a vegan lifestyle and so far so good!
Find my happiness
Another huge goal for me is to find happiness within myself (I know that’s quite a big statement and probably quite ambitious to achieve in a year but my goal is to start the discovery). I feel like as I get older, I’m realising more and more that the key to a long, happy life is to find happiness in yourself. And to achieve that, I know that there’s a few things that I can start doing to help myself get there i.e.
- Stop trying to please other people and do things that make ME happy
- Live a more minimalist lifestyle (things don’t make you happy)
- Neither do clothes – so stop buying them when you know you don’t need them
- Be more mindful (practice mindfulness)
My final goal for 2018 is to get super excited for what I want to do this year and start planning it all! I have a feeling that it could be one of the best years yet!
